Our Mission

Our goal is to protect San Luis Obispo County’s precious water, agricultural lands, environmental quality, rural character, scenic vineyards, pristine beaches, and diverse economy. Our plan is to successfully qualify and pass an initiative at the November 2018 election which will prevent the drilling of new oil or gas wells and ban fracking on all the unincorporated lands of SLO County.

Our Coalition

The Coalition to Protect SLO County represents the spirit of local county citizens who have stood up over past decades to resist the dangers and expansion of local oil field operations. Whether it was the 1980’s initiative to ban onshore infrastructure to support offshore drilling, the massive oil spill in the Guadalupe dunes, the pollution and re-building of Avila Beach, the proposal to begin oil development in the Huasna Valley, the expansion plans for drilling and underground injection of oil field wastewater in Price Canyon, or the Phillips 66 plan to build a crude oil train terminal at its Nipomo refinery–local citizens have organized to either prevent such development or pressure for clean-up of the toxic messes it has created.

San Luis Obispo County, California, and the world are now at a clean energy crossroads. As citizens, we do have the potential to control the energy resources within our County and now is the time to stand up and create some new rules for the operation of oil wells.

Join Us and Take Action

We need your help and the help of other concerned citizens to take a stand against the threats that expanded risky oil production pose in our county to our water quality and clean air. Become an advocate of change, learn more about this struggle, get answers to your questions and please volunteer your time, or make a financial donation to assist with costs.

We hope you will join us at our next meeting!
