Day 1:
Before Class
Before Class
- Problem set #9 posted, check it out.
- Rotational Systems
- Watch Parallel Axis Theorem
In Class
- Collect Problem Set #8
- A day at the races. Some round objects are going to roll down a flat surface without slipping – a hollow ring, a solid sphere, a hollow sphere – all of different sizes and masses. What determines which one wins? You might think about this while watching the rotational systems video.

- Watch this video: PS#8, Q1 and treatment of CM
- Watch this video: Spinning Skater What are the forces on a skater’s arms when she is spinning very fast?
- PS#8 Solutions Posted on main website.
- HEY! so I just changed (at 1:40 Wednesday afternoon) question #2 on PS #9 to include the following: let the radius of the disk = 10 cm and the mass = 2 kg. This allows us to evaluate the answers to see if they make sense to us.
In Class
- We consider this classic question: Are you more stable at the top or bottom of a ladder?
