Week 6 SUSTAIN Spring 2015

Optical Devices.

Day 1: Monday: Images in Mirrors
Before Class: 25.7, Mirrors. You should be able to do 6 ray diagrams for this class:
1) Two with a convex lens: one with a real image, one with a virtual image and know how why the object being inside or outside the focal length determines which one you draw.
2) One with a concave lens and explain why it’s always a virtual image.
3) Two with a concave mirror: one with a real image, one with a virtual image and know why the object being inside or outside the focal length determines which one you draw.
4) One with a convex mirror and explain why it’s always a virtual image.

You should be able to find the distance of the image (both real and virtual), and find the enlargement/reduction factor by using triangles.

You can do any of the problems at the end of chapter 25. In particular, try any and all from 40 – 45 and 57, 58.
